UTM Link Builder
Fill in source, medium and campaign, then copy a link that GA4 will read correctly.
Adding parameters such as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to a link lets Google Analytics 4 record that visit as a distinct campaign rather than lumping it in with everything else. This tool adds those parameters to a link you paste in, builds a GA4 ready URL, and keeps every link you generate in a list on the same page.
utm_source names the platform a visitor came from, such as instagram or newsletter; utm_medium names the channel type, such as email, cpc or social; utm_campaign names the specific campaign. When these three stay consistent and lowercase, GA4 shows one clean row instead of splitting the same campaign across several variants. utm_term and utm_content are optional and mostly used to tell ad variants apart.
The most common mistake is spelling the same campaign as Instagram, instagram and insta on different links. GA4 treats capitalisation as significant, so each spelling variant shows up as its own row and the report ends up fragmented. Using hyphens instead of spaces, and sticking to one naming pattern once you pick it, keeps the campaign list readable months later.
How to use it
- Paste the page URL.
- Enter source, medium and campaign in lowercase.
- Add term and content if you need to tell variants apart.
- Copy the generated link and look for that campaign name in GA4.
FAQ
What should go in utm_medium?
The channel type: email for newsletters, cpc for paid ads, social for organic posts. Sticking to a fixed list keeps reporting tidy rather than typing free text each time.
What if I share the same link in several places?
Build a separate link with its own utm_source for each platform, otherwise GA4 credits every visit to a single source.
Does capitalisation matter?
Yes. GA4 is case sensitive, so instagram and Instagram are recorded as two different campaigns. Lowercase everything.
Are the links I build saved anywhere?
No. The list only lives in your browser for as long as this page stays open; nothing is sent to a server.
