A title tends to display in full on Google when it stays between fifty and sixty five characters, while a meta description has more room, roughly one hundred twenty to one hundred fifty five characters. The counter under each field turns red once you go past the limit. The same preview also checks your canonical URL and Open Graph image.
The most common mistake is stuffing the title with keywords until it reads like a list rather than a sentence. A close second is leaving the meta description blank, which makes Google pull a random line from the page instead. Reusing the same title across several pages is another one, since it leaves search results looking identical and harder to tell apart. If the Open Graph image is missing or the wrong size, the share card ends up blank.
