Favicon Generator
Give it an image or a letter; download favicon.ico, PNG sizes, an Apple icon and head tags as a ZIP.
Tool
A favicon is the small icon that stands for your site in the browser tab, in bookmarks and on a phone's home screen. You either upload a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG image, or draw an icon from one or two letters or an emoji, choosing background colour, text colour, corner radius and font weight. The output is a favicon.ico holding 16, 32 and 48 pixel images, 16 and 32 pixel PNGs, a 180 pixel apple-touch-icon, 192 and 512 pixel Android icons, a maskable 512 icon and a site.webmanifest.
For an image that is not square, choose between centring and cropping it, or fitting it and filling the rest with the background colour. The preview shows the icon on light and dark tab backgrounds and on a home screen. The tool also gives the tags to place in your head and the manifest text in copyable boxes. You can download each file or everything as one ZIP. In the maskable icon, the content is shrunk into a safe area so that cropped edges do not cut it.
If your source is smaller than 512 pixels, the larger sizes will look soft, and the tool says so. A detailed logo will not be legible at 16 pixels; a simple shape or a single letter works better at that size. Browsers keep favicons in their cache, so a new icon may take a while to appear after you publish it. The tool produces the files; placing them on your site and checking the addresses and paths is up to you or your developer.
FAQ
Which files and sizes does it produce?
favicon.ico contains 16, 32 and 48 pixel images. You also get favicon-16x16.png, favicon-32x32.png, apple-touch-icon.png (180), android-chrome-192x192.png, android-chrome-512x512.png, a maskable 512 icon and site.webmanifest.
Is the image I upload sent anywhere?
No. The image is processed only in your browser; it is never sent over the network or stored. Closing the page discards the image and the generated files, so remember to download the ZIP.
How large should my source image be?
For the best result, use a square image of at least 512 pixels. A smaller one makes the larger sizes soft, and the tool warns you. An SVG has no size problem.
Why does my site still show the old favicon?
Browsers cache favicons, so a change may not show at once. Try a hard refresh or closing and reopening the tab, and check the file names and the paths in your head tags.
